"For RTL, it's the first NFL season – and it's being extensively celebrated. After securing the rights to the flagship of American football, the Cologne-based broadcaster, last November, featured six well-known TV personalities in more or less original games around US sports in 'Promi Touchdown.' In anticipation of the Super Bowl, which takes place in Las Vegas on Sunday night/Monday morning German time, RTL is following up – with an idea apparently inspired by Stefan Raab's ice soccer: About 30 celebrities spread across four teams will compete live in primetime in 'American Ice Football.'
Frank Buschmann will be at the commentator's microphone when the celebs, 'equipped' with profileless bowling shoes and football protective clothing, go on a touchdown hunt. Elton takes on the moderation, and Mona Stevens, quarterback of the German Women's Football National Team and NFL expert, asks questions as a reporter. 10,000 fans will be in attendance at the Mannheim SAP Arena, and afterwards, Germany's largest public viewing for the Super Bowl will take place.
Stars from the RTL cosmos are taking on the unusual sports challenge, including GZSZ star Timur Ülker, former 'Let's Dance' winner René Casselly, lawyer and actor Christopher Posch, and former 'Bachelorette' Sharon Battiste. Reality stars Calvin Kleinen, Tobias Wegener, and Adriano Salvaggio are also venturing onto the ice.
Former sports stars are lacing up their bowling shoes too: Handball world champions Pascal Hens and Michael 'Mimi' Kraus, former gymnasts Philipp Boy and Fabian Hambüchen, as well as former football coach and motivation monster Thorsten Legat. Ailton and Kevin Großkreutz, two characters from recent Bundesliga history, are also participating. Kevin Kuske, the most successful bobsledder in the history of the Winter Olympics, has retired, but whether his experience on the ice will help him in 'American Ice Football' is questionable. At 11:15 pm, the wait for football fans will come to an end: The broadcast of the Super Bowl from Las Vegas begins on RTL."
